Racism In Modern America

What Racial issues are still prevalent to society and How can we prevent them from happening?

Forman, T., & Lewis, A. (2006). RACIAL APATHY AND HURRICANE KATRINA: The Social Anatomy of Prejudice in the Post-Civil Rights Era. Du Bois Review, 3(1), 175-202.

This articles describes the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina down in the south. It shows the crisis and discrimination many African-American people faced when it came to recieving help from the Government. Compared to the Caucasian people who suffered from the Hurricane, African-Americans were denied many things such as insurance, clean food supplies, and rapid recovery unlike the Caucasian folks in the neighborhood. This article also looks at the post-civil rights era and compares to how black people in the south are being treated. The article further on explains how in order to fix this problem you need to get rid of “White Apathy” and “Ignorance” from society.

This Article is significant to my research paper because it provides a recent example of how African-American people have been racially profiled and treated different from their white counterparts. This article not only explains the problem but it gives alternatives and solutions in order for people to change society. Last but not least it relates back to the civil rights era and it compares and contrasts the efforts that have been put into place to see whether it helped or not.

Goffe, L. (2014). Modern day lynching? Black America vs white police. New African, (543), 80.

This article describes the recent shootings that have been committed by white police officers against unarmed African-American individuals. Some examples of the victims mentioned in the passage is Micheal Brown, Eric Garner, Tamar Rice and Jacob Crawford. Many white cops are threatened and face fear of black people. The article describes how black people are always targeted and judged based on the color of their skin. No matter what they will always have a target on their backs paper.

This Article is relevant to my research topic because it shows instances where people who are supposed to be enforcing the law are in fact violating it. The article also explains how society plays a role in this such as the media. It provides perfect examples and ideas that I can bring up in my research paper and this article will give me many textual evidence that I may need in the future.

Harris, G. (2015). America's Problem of Race: The Black and Latino Man Divided by a Common African Ancestry. Journal of Public Affairs Education, 21(4), 495-510.

This peer-review journal discuss the relationship between the latino community and the balck community. It discusses tactics that the police use to make them turn against each other. It also relates back to the civil rights movement and how history is basically just repeating itself and what happened decades ago it not being dealt with. The idea that they are making people from the same minority group go against each other is ridiculous.

This article can benefit me because it talks about racism and discrimination right where I can relate to, in New York City. Another reason why this article is very important is because I can compare the results of the efforts that are being made to stop this constant discrimination and try to compare any alterinitives from the ither sources that I mentioned above.

Laura Bustos, Lady Caro, & Karen Chisco. (2016). Racism in America: Challenges in the Modern World. Ciudad Paz-ando, 9(2), 107-119.

This article discusses the ideas about “white privilege” and it further studies the incident about innocent unarmed black people being killed such as Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin. This article also relates back to the time in which Martin Luther King introduced the idea of the Civil Rights Movement in order for African-Americans to get equal rights. They also mentioned Abraham Lincoln and his way of the Emancipation proclamation.

This article is very useful because it will show me ideas thatI can relate back to and I can compare this article with the first one and get as many examples as possible. This article talks about “white Privilege” and I can introduce this topic because no one else talked about it.
